Hike to Hellsegga Peak
Mountain Hike in Lofotodden National Park
An absolutely unique opportunity to climb Hellsegga headland in Lofotodden National Park, and to see the wild and infamous maelstrom from above.
The Lofoten Wall and The Maelstrom
Onboard our sturdy RIB boat, we’ll take you on a safe journey along the dramatic Lofotveggen mountains and into Lofotodden National Park. We’ll cross the maelstrom, going past remote and abandoned fishing villages towards Yttersia and onward to Helle.
Your skipper and guide will meet you at our booking office in Reine, where you’ll be given life jackets. Our skippers have all the necessary certifications to ensure that you have a safe and comfortable journey.
Secluded Fishing Villages
As soon as we’ve gotten off the boat on Helle, your hiking adventure begins. We’ll follow part of the old school path used by children who lived in the area’s remote fishing villages. The route is steep and at times overgrown, but from the start of the trip we’ll be able to catch glimpses of our first fantastic vantage point. There, we’ll take a breather before we continue to the very top, where we’ll have our lunch break.
View Towards Røst
If we’re lucky and have clear skies, we’ll be able to see the island groups of Mosken and Værøy, and sometimes all the way to Røst, the outermost municipality in Lofoten. During most of the trip we will be able to look straight down at the maelstrom, a spectacular sight that only a select few have ever had the honour of seeing with their own eyes. After lunch, we’ll explore the plateau itself, which offers impressive panoramic views. After that, we’ll descend back towards Helle and take a boat trip back to Reine.
